Finches in Flight

RV Organization

When you have small children, you know your once neat and tidy room may only be that way for about 5 minutes (why do we even clean, right?!). This is most definitely accurate when it comes to our campers. Smaller living spaces can especially seem more cluttered. Space is premium in a camper and setting goals to keep things off the floor and counters by using multi-functional products is crucial. RV organization helps maximize space and practicality. Here are some tips and products we love that have helped organize our RV.

RV Organization Tips

Organization begins as soon as you start setting up. My husband and I have gotten into a routine where I will set up everything inside of the camper (while our boys play) and he sets up everything outside. Our oldest likes to help Daddy drill down the legs, but for the most part they stay inside with me while I trample over them! Here is a list of things we have learned over the years that has seemed to have improved our organization:

  • Unpack clothes in closets/drawers and move your luggage to the trunk of your car. If you have the flexibility to do this prior to leaving for your trip that helps as well.
  • Totes, totes and more totes! We use totes to transport food, linin, toys – you name it. Onces they are unpacked, we keep them outside to use as storage. We like to keep our shoes in them, bug spray, sunscreen, and other miscellaneous things.
  • Keep storage baskets in the pantry. I love an organized pantry, and it’s so nice to have baskets to place all of our kids snacks and breakfast bars in hands reach.
  • Plan meals ahead. We generally know what we’re going to eat for breakfasts, lunches and dinners before we even hit the road. Of course, we sometimes veer off from our plans, but it’s smart to only take food you will need!

RV Organization Products

The first product we got allows for bedside closet storage that simply hangs from the metal rod. You can find several options with front panels that help stuff from falling out during transit. I personally like the 4 shelf option, which allows for you to spread your clothes out in sections better. This is a quick installation and keeps clothes at the front of the closet so you’re not having to reach far back.

Another item we purchased was a multi-functional storage ottoman. We use it for toy storage, a foot rest while relaxing on the couch, and even as a seat since it can support up to 350 lbs. It also works as a dog stair for our little 8 lb yorkie-poo. It’s collapsible, lightweight, and can be moved anywhere. I am known to like having a “cleaned up” camper before we go exploring, and our boys know all their toys go in this cube before we head out. This works great for your RV organization, and we love that it’s multi-functional!

A hanging storage caddy is another RV organization product we use. We hang this caddy on the inside of our door. I think it’s nice for storing our dog leash, miscellaneous papers, and other random things for quick access. This one in particular allows for you to hang by using the metal frame, or you can remove the frame altogether and just use the provided ties.

Metal wire hanging baskets are other items we love. These baskets (which come in a pack of two) attach to the wall with the provided adhesive squares. They stay on the walls – no need to re-apply every time we set up. We use one in the bathroom for toilet paper and wash rags. We also placed one near the TV for charging our devices, TV remotes, and streaming device with the attached HDMI cord we mentioned in another post. I have seen some people use them around the kitchen for fruit or spices. It is nice to clear up counter space for RV organization and save the cupboards for pantry food.

These are just some of the things we have found to help with our RV organization. The more often you camp, the more you will learn what works for your family.
